worked on getting fenders and upper and lower valence epoxy primered. We had a little bit of cold weather, so I had to heat the garage up to 70.
painted inside of fenders with epoxy. For some reason it laid down really well. Im still fiddling with spray patterns and mixtures.
Then the next day, sprayed the outside of the fenders and valence. I used my cribs to lift the fenders up a bit to get them off the ground. This makes them easier to spray, and reduces the amount of dust that gets kicked back up. Overall not bad, the outside didn't spray as wet as the inside, I fiddled with the gun a little bit on pressure, I'm using a fish eye filter on the end of the gun, and as it picks up moisture and contaminants from the line, it clogs, so it requires a bit of adjustment to add pressure.
getting rest of body ready for Epoxy again. This will be final coat of epoxy, then onto filler, then onto high build primer.
Also Ordered Dakota Digital RTX guages. I kinda went back and forth on the different options on guages. I kinda like them all, but to some degree I think the stockish look works a little bit better. Hopefully it will look as good as I think it will. Need to order Dash pad, carpet, and headliner . First I'm going to buy a vintage air system, and install that before assembling the fenders and dash. I hear they are at least 6 weeks out on orders. Plus I need to relocate my alternator to the drivers side, hopefully its not a huge deal with the March pulleys. Will probably need to call them up to figure out the pulley situation.
I got the same gauges and am very happy with them. The more disassembled the car is, the better for install. Same goes for VA, but fenders need to be on to run hoses, in my view. Happy with VA, too - I'd read others complain about it being weak, but I have to leave the fan at its absolute lowest setting to avoid getting frozen! I went with NPD dash pad, ACC carpet, and a one-piece ABS/fabric headliner off ebay - all great. You know my build thread, but happy to answer any questions not addressed there.
I go back to your build often, im on a similar path. I need to check out the 1 piece headliner. Ive heard the factory 70 stuff is a PIA to do.
when I ordered my Dakota Digital, I ordered through Summit, only because I was ordering multiple things. Everything but the bezel was back ordered, but the bezel came in a few days ago. I didnt look at it carefully till yesterday, and the bezel has some imperfections in it. I paid 175 for the dam thing, I kinda expect the craftsmanship to be better than what it was, even though I know better. Ive sent Summit a question to see what they want to do about it, but i'm not expecting any miracles here. Cheap Chinese crap. Looking at this thing, id say they should have priced it 50 bucks. Normally Id just deal with it, but Ill see this EVERY time I get in the car unless I paint it.
The crappy quality of that bezel was talked about on youtube channel of lethalgarage. He had same issue and he repainted his get rid of the issues on chrome missing in some places or uneven edges. It is garbage.
