Hey, I'm sure you heard or seen this question before but Looking to buy a 1970 Camaro Z28 and need some help... No documents... Want to know if the motor stamp is CTB that that mean it is likely a Z28??
From Mortec CTB 1970 350 high perf, 4 spd LT1 350 4 F X A CTB 1972 400 man trans., A.I.R. 4 Caprice CTB 1974 400 t/h trns, pol/taxi 175 2 Caprice CTB 1975 400 a/t 175 4 A CTB 1978 305 LG3 U 145 2 Monza
If you can, look on the back of the engine on the top of the bell housing mounting flange for a cast in 4 digit date code. Should end in 0 for 1970.
Yes the motor is a 1970 CTB with 4 Spd. Motor and trans are numbers matching to vin. Car has the aluminum spaces as mentioned in articles I read. Again my question is does this motor only come in Z28's or could this combination have been ordered with out Z28 option?? Car is being presented as Z28 Any and all help would be appreciated...
i'd say the Z/28 primary feature is the engine. CTB: 350ci, mt, z when you say #s match do you have the partial VIN suffix stamped pass side front engine pad ? down below & behind the alternator. if the stamps are factory and the date codes and other identifiers match up I'm sure you are off to a good start. where in KY are you? and welcome to the board, its a great place with tons of info...... I always say "use the search feature" you can literally search old threads and get information. click the below link to '70 data page http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro70.html#chitika_close_button
Yes partical vin on engine pad behind alternator car build 4A and engine dated 2/27... Trans also has partical vin... Thanks, Located between Lexington and Knoxville just off 75. I currently have 2 1969 camaro convertibles and always liked the 70-72 look.
looks like you are OK, I'd offer to ride out and look at it but just had left hip replaced 5 days ago and I'm not allowed to drive quite yet. my last camaro was a 69 convertible, was a great car but I regretted selling my 71 and now have a 72. cant stay away from the 2nd gens. style and ride improvements standing the test of time. maybe post up some pics ?
Thanks again for motor help.... Next question car has a RS front end - how can I confirm if it is an original RS car. Car was reprinted 15 to 20 years ago and needs complete redo again. Any way to tell Original RS car??
Welcome aboard. Vin stamp on pad behind alt. suggest that it was built at the Van Nuys plant in California.
