Hi Ralph and welcome to the forum. There have been volumes of discussions on this site over the years regarding the original wheel paint and visually acceptable options. Try doing a Google search using "site:nastyz28.com z28 wheel paint"...and have fun reading. :)

I got the PPG (fmr Ditzler) DDL-32961 from these guys:
    http://www.ohioautokolor.com/
    last year.

    Think a pint is enough?

Don't forget the inside is Dove Grey. It is painted first and then the outside color fogs into the inside from the wheel openings.

Regarding the Inside Wheel Paint.....Over twenty years ago now, I sent a 70' Jack Base (that appeared
to be the same shade of gray as wheels) to PPG for them to analyze the color.

PPG came back with code # 35517 in DAU or DAR.

There was never a "name" associated with the OE 70 color nor the 35517.

Everybody interested copy and save this post into your own files, as this is as good
as it gets for the inside wheel color on the 70' Z28 !!!!!!!!!!

This shows Ditzlers recipe for the DDL32961 laquer wheel paint. All those ingredients are necessary to get the correct color and finish.
EPA has determined that laquer is bad for us so getting it today is almost impossible.

I took my wheels to a powder coater with a picture of what the original color looks like and they matched it up. Powder coating will hold up better than the spray paint in my opinion

Some research on Ditzler's site has this information.

    DMA384 Transparent Yellow Oxide
    DMA323 Coarse Poly
    DMA358 Strong Black
    DMA364 Texture
    DX265 Flattening Base

Most of these products are shown to be used for Ditzler's Deltron urethane paint so it wouldn't be very difficult to make a urethane based copy.
