Chuck, not the same as "born with". The base has slight difference and the lid has more noticable differences. Still a nice piece.

I know this is a very old thread, but still relevant. I would like to know what the differences are between an original 1971 factory air cleaner and a dealer replacement air cleaner that were sold by GM, as pointed out by dkatap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know when the NOS "Over The Counter" A.C. changed from assy line 1970/71 style. The chrome lid changed in that the shape/profile of the flats and contours are "different" (I do not have pics to compare)

Ive never learned any differences in the base ????

I'm looking for 70/71 Original used base that I can restore and put together
    with 70/71 rechromed lid ????

    A Holley 3310 fits perfect under a 70-72 Z28 breather. You obviously do not have a 70-72 Z28 breather.

There are supposedly changes to both the lid and base. Can anybody describe or provide photos of those difference?

Yes, but they look way different and were meant to fit on a Q-jet.

Allright, let's go at this a different way. Is the air cleaner in the attached photo a factory original or is it a replacement unit for a 71 Z28?
