Sorry to post the question that i should have been able to find an answer for on my own, but I promise you that i have spent considerable time researching with no luck. Coudl anyone help me with what the numbers on the 4th line mean? The first 3 lines seem to be all that I can find info for.

Specifically I am trying to decipher the '240376'.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Shawn

Appreciate the reply. From the info, it’s a body time / date code. Any idea how to read it and why I often don’t see this when doing the research. Seems that it’s often missing?

The Fisher time date code is somewhat mysterious.
From the Internet:
Since quite some time has passed since these cars were built, figuring out what exactly this code is or how to decode it has been lost to time.

This code on the LA Camaros is fairly easy to get information from. The date is in there. Norwood took a different approach that makes it close to impossible to retrieve any information from. 240376 can be partially broken down. The 24 is the day of production starting from day 1 of production for the year. So, 24 could be the 24th day of production, the 124th day of production, the 224th day of production, or the 324th day. For you to be able to translate that into a calendar date, you need to know what day was the first day of production and also know if there were any lost days of production after day 1 to be able to calculate the actual build date.

LA made it much simpler. They didn't count days from day 1 of production. They simply stamped the day of the month in the first two numbers as the day of month. The month is stamped higher up on the tag, so you can just read the month and day from the tag.

Great info Gary. Much appreciated. I hate asking questions for anything I can find myself, but I beat my head on a screen for 2 days with nothing.

Welcome to the site. You'll learn a lot from the information posters provide here. I've had my '74z28 for nearly 39 years and I've learned more about my car in the 9 years I've been a member of this site than I did in the 30ish years prior.

Welcome to NastyZ :) Is this going to be a resto project?
It is. I bought the car when I was 14 in 1989 and my father and I put 2.5 years into restoring it. He knew the original owner, who had let it sit and go to hell. I couldn't understand it at the time until I got married and had 3 boys come along. Life gets in the way sometimes and it doesn't make the best family vehicle. Being a teenager, I just HAD to get rid of the vinyl top and paint it fire engine red. Now that 2/3 boys are through with college, looking to restore it back to 100% original as possible. We've got a long road. Not sure how I feel about the original Chamois color, but I want to do the ol' girl justice.
