I don't know, I bought this car unmolested and did a ground up resto on it, when I pulled the motor CHS was clearly marked on the side of the block.
I assume that was done at the factory assembly.

Question? have you ever seen a 78 Z28 manual trans code other than CHS?
No I have not, that is precisely why I keep this thread going. I believe some of the literature that folks on this board subscribe too is wrong in print. And those errors get passed along on the internet when those publications are copied to websites.

Hi there I have the same option car with color code 48 and 4 speed manual transmission with CHS engine code .all original number matching but 4 speed brogwarner T10I know, I know, I won't let this rest till MadMike and Gary change their websites. Here's another apparent survivor '78 Z28 with the original, manual transmission drivetrain with the CHS engine code
He even took a pic of the engine block code for me and relisted it!
