1978 Z28 Engine Code

Yea, I'm back at getting codes again for original 1978 drivetrains:

This is an original auto trans Z28 with engine code of VO526CHC, pulled from the dealership vehicle inspection sheet. Matches this web site's info. Haven't found any at's with CHS yet, all mt's.....

I know, I know, I won't let this rest till MadMike and Gary change their websites. Here's another apparent survivor '78 Z28 with the original, manual transmission drivetrain with the CHS engine code

He even took a pic of the engine block code for me and relisted it!

Thanks for the support John, I guess it's my personal vendetta to get this changed on some of the key web sites people go for info. I've seen what appears to be copies of engine codes from these web sites on other websites too, so it just proliferates the wrong info.

I think it also goes back to what reference you consider the "bible" for engine codes, because I've talked with two folks (MadMike being one of them) that use two different references, one saying CHS is the mt code for the Z28 in 1978 another saying it's auto tranny.

I think I've dug up enough "proof" that it needs to change on this and other sites. Mike, Gary....what do you guys think?!

I'd say you are probably right. All the information we have is what has been handed down from GM records. It would be easy to believe that errors have been made in the information over the years so what we have today could be wrong.

Thanks for the encouraging words Gary, but you know I'm really after changing the info on the web sites, right? I know you have to go by what the GM manuals say, but there's a guy at YearOne (I think it was) that I spoke to that FAXed me a sheet that showed CHS as the suffix for mt on the '78 Z28, why can't you and Mike quote his book on your sites?! I've got the code sheet if you'd like to see it, and I could probably track this guy down. He was an entertaining gentelman to speak with, same place Mike works I think.
