Your original is a lighter shade of bronze probably from the sunlight that made the factory andonizing fade.

The inserts in 81s were a lighter shade of bronze from the day they left the factory.

I have an extra lower dash section from an 81 z28 with bronze radio trim plate. The aluminum trim was covered with an aftermarket radio plate since 82. No fade under there. Much lighter color then 79-80 trim.

We only offer it in this shade/color. We are working on releasing the Berlinetta soon (which is silver/aluminum shade).

From what we have found in our research and from original factory brochures, is that the brown/bronze is the same for 79-81. If there are any lighter colors, it is due to age and/or sunlight exposure from the past 30 years.
I know not everyone is in agreement on this.

I recently spoke to a man in Canada who did not believe that the aluminum was as dark as we have it but then found a car that had 100,000 + miles and it matched. He just purchased the kit a few weeks ago.

I have free samples of the material available if anyone ever wanted one. If interested you can call for the free sample.

Check the dash photos on this website. www.81z28Camaro.com
The black car on the site is a 5000 mile original with no interior sun damage or fade. Its very obvious that the 81 has a different dash color that you do not offer.
If you choose not to produce it that is of course your option.
Please dont think I am attacking your product, I very happy to see these items reproduced as they are sorely needed. Just tired of being odd man out I guess:)

Those inserts are Silver with no apparent brown (that I can see).

Yes they are very light, really shows the difference where it rubs off (headlight switch area) or scratches (lighter area) though.

Will the lighter set your making have white or black lettering?

Yes I would love a sample, will send a p.m. Thanks

+1 on the silver inlay for the '81 Z28.

I'd love to replace/fix mine. Found this thread and started to wonder if someone had changed out the dash some time before I bought my Z in '93. The inlay's brushed silver, and there really is not any of the white edging. Would the silver be the same price range as the brown?

My interior's not in the best shape, but I'll try to throw up a few photos in my project thread soon for anyone to see as another reference.

I am curious, though. My radio plate is NOT the brush alum; it's the same blue plastic as the rest. Is the plate a 2 piece thing (blue plastic molded frame behind, with the alum plate in front) or what? Anyone else's 81Z not have the alum plate around the radio?

I know I have been saying that we will have the Silver Inserts soon. I have been slacking getting them out. I have 7 sets right now but have to work on the finer details, (instructions, photos, etc).

I just have to get off my duff and get on it. But I promise it will be in the near future.
