I was going through some old pictures from a car show and one of the cars had a Edelbrock Intake, with the factory Qjet and air cleaner but no induction seal, what edelbrock intake would this be??

If you have a better resolution version of that photo on one of your devices, you may be able to read the script on it that I can see above the rad hose and below the pcv hose. I'd bet it is a Performer QJet. I have an RPM QJet, but there's no way my hood will close with the stock air cleaner on.

There was a article in Hot Rod Magazine about making a 1979 Z-28 hood scoop functional .Of which I did to mine 1979 Z-28.And I used a Eldelbrock 2101 Performer intake with a Q-jet carb ,.I just had to raise the hood slightly in back,

I agree with others that will be a very nice combo! Good choices!

Based on everything you’ve listed I don’t think you are giving anything up by using any of the stock or day 2 options that have been mentioned. In fact, based on your combo, a closer to stock manifold with short “twisty” runners is most likely to match your set up, which appears to be focused on maximizing torque! (Pegging the fun meter though intake charge velocity using low volume and length!)

Then of course weight is always a consideration, so aluminum would be my first recommendation (which also is going to give you better heat dissipation which = colder intake charge too), then given the broad selection of options available at that point, I would personally go with an Edelbrock torquer II but that’s just my preference. Looks stock enough to pass most inspections but better than stock performance in almost all applications.

After all, how stock will your engine really look to the trained eye, even with all the paint work you are planning? When you are using some RPM heads with all their “square corners,” It will be obvious to anyone that’s clued in that they are a post 1990s CNC machined head regardless of what color you paint them! But I’m gonna guess you don’t care about that enough to grind everything round on the outside of the heads, so why cheat yourself on the intake?

I say make it a day-2 car and have a blast!

oh and also… don’t over do it with the headers! 1 1/2” ought to be max. Anything larger could reduce torque in your combo! Then with that much torque, if you go with an overdrive you should be cruising at 80mph with almost no effort.

good luck and have fun!

Curious if the OP, 1981 zapper, ever completed their build. What intake did you use and do you have any pics to share ? Thanks.

To help your hunt for an aluminum intake try looking at the 305HO engines in the 83-85 Gen III Camaros and Firebirds. When we pulled my brother's 84 Z-28 apart for parts for my projects (the 84 body was way too far gone for any serious effort to resurrect it a dozen years ago) I kept the intake off the 305 plus the Turbo 700. It's buried under other parts right now but I'm pretty sure the casting number is 14057053. My Chevy casting code book is pretty vague on usage but I remember running that number and finding it also matched the intake for the Corvette L82 for 79 up. There are threads out on our site covering this intake. But consider this, with a Q-Jet and a mild cam the L69 was rated at 190 hp net. You won't lose anything but the weight if you find a good one.
And if you hat the Q-Jet, Holley does have a spread bore carb to take it's place, just not so cheap.

The engine is not built yet, still waiting on backordered parts, I'm going to be using a Edelbrock Performer spread bore intake part #2101, it is not that much taller then the factory LM1 intake, in order to use the factory air cleaner I will need to remove the rubber seal from the research I did. I will update this thread once the engine is in the car.
