In my pickup 5.3 when I turn AC on temp will go to middle bar between standard 210 and 260 and it will not heat the interior. Is there some valve controlling this water? I turn it off and it will drop back to 210. This morning though when I kicked it in to get on interstate the mystery valve popped open and heat started. Or could this have just been caused by more air cooling engine. I appreciate any feedback.

Have you checked the coolant level? The first thing that will be affected by low coolant is the heater core.

My 2001 has water circulating all the time. A valve allows air to cross the core.

Has it had a coolant flush recently? This can cause heating issues.

Also check for cracked radiator tanks.
