Can I use 28 gauge stainless steel to block the exhaust crossovers in the manifold? I called Edelbrock and they told me to block it off with shim stock. I had to redo the gaskets anyways and the manifold is already off. Thanks for the help.
I just use some thin sheet metal, seal it to the head then put the intake gaskets on top. .028 should work.
What heads are ya using? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-ms90322 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-1204
Have done it but with carbon steel that was a little thicker ... on CT cars where heads are pulled often for tech and plain cheap (sectioned) gaskets are ... cheap. Heck, done it w/ folded beer can in a pinch ... short-term only ... burns thru. 28g about 0.015" ... when that thin, do ensure it's stainless.
I decided to just go with these Fel Pro gaskets that are steel and have it blocked off https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-1206s3/questionsanswers Thanks for the help
I don't know of any heads with a heat crossover that would require a gasket with that large of a port. 2.21 x 1.31 is much larger than a stock head.
I was just about to get on and tell everyone the 1206-s3 are way too big but you beat me to it. LOL. I just grabbed them from O'Reilly's and they are huge. I ordered the FEL-MS90322 just now from O'Reilly's. Thank you for the suggestion I really appreciate it.
And to answer your question from earlier I have World Sportsman 2 heads with a RPM Performer manifold. I just needed a stock replacement with the crossovers blocked out. Thanks again.
You will still need to use some sort of thin sheet metal behind that gasket as that's is what I use and the gasket material will burn through with them.
Thanks for the tip. But I went with what 1320feet suggested: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-ms90322
