I have seen a few threads where folks have said they did this but cant find images or any follow ups if they had problems.

Think this would work on 9.5" rim with 5.75" BS?

In my experience, that's too big for the front, the tire will hit the rear of the wheel wells under load. 5.5" is the most backspace I've seen in front (albeit on 17" wheels) it starts getting REALLY close to suspension components

I always wondered how big a tire if you removed or modified the inner fender. I am planning a 275/40/18 for my car one way or another. I think cutting out the inner sheet metal then welding in a "tub", so to speak, where the tire hits.

Mainly this all came about because I found a style of rims I like and they are offered in 2 sizes only.

I need to run same size front and back.

    the two sizes are

    18x9.5 w/ 5.75bs
    and
    18x8.5 w/ 4.5bs

I think I could get away with 275 on the 8.5 but, didnt want to leave anything on the table.

That's big. What size rear tires would you run if those will fit?

The same size, the goal would be to run matched sizes front and back.

Its likely too much but, wasnt sure if the 275 would work on the 8.5 with 4.5 BS as I think the guys that do run those have a tick more BS, like 4.75.

That's basically what I did. I did it less for max width and more for maximum tuck. Same idea though. Rolled the outer and cut up the inner for clearance. Then added a 90* strip to the outer and added metal to the inner to mount the two back together for structure. This tucks a 255 tire by several inches. More pics in my thread.

This pic shows where the strip got welded to the outer.
