350 / 290hp strange sound at idle

Anyone have any ideas what could cause this sound on the drivers side only or is it ok?

I am having some other issues such as low idle in gear at a red light, i'm guessing its due to a vacuum leak but have more investigation to do, just a bit worried about a fire if I spray carb cleaner all over the place.

I think I may try to get my hands on a propane torch to test for leaks or would a simple lighter work?

What is this?

Have you tune it up lately? I would do that first .Then the header gaskets and Check other things a step at a time. I have a 290 HP 350 in my 1981 El Camino SS. And it sounded similar to that before I tuned it up.

I'm finding it hard to hear anything "unusual" over the sound of the header gasket leak! ;)

The multi-layer aluminum or copper gaskets do a very nice job of sealing.
I've had a set of Percy's header gaskets on my car for over 50K miles and never had a leak.
(I only retightened them once because I thought I should check them after 40k miles.)

They're not cheap but they are reusable if you're careful with them.

Lol thanks it seems like that's the concensus, hopefully I can get those gaskets or something similar locally.

The car has new plugs, wires, distributor, oil etc.. One plug wire was touching the exhaust so I'll have a look tonight for any arcing.

Thanks for the help everyone, will update once I get the new gaskets in.

Well I've replaced the gasket but can now tell that the exhaust is leaking right from the header itself, seems like the tubes are separating from the mounting plate.

Is there any temporary fix I can use until I can get some new headers in?

Would permatex copper maybe work or is it too high of heat/pressure?
