So I have all the final specs and need to order headers. Car is a 73 with full Detroit speed front suspension on stock subframe will be lowered 1"-2" roughly. Motor 383 SBC AFR heads straight plugs and square exhaust ports. Will be running serpentine kit if that matters and auto trans. I'm helping a hell of a time finding what headers will fit well and have good clearance.. can anyone with a similar build help please??? pics would be fantastic. I know I'm beating a dead horse so thanks in advance.

If you're running AFR 195 cyl heads your exh Port is raised .100 so you're already gaining clearance

If running AFR 210 cyl heads those exh ports are raised .250

Also motor mounts depending on mfg can change header height

ok that makes sense so hopefully that will help with fit but any info on ground clearance?

My current headers are Hedman, the ones with the ball/socket collector flange. Cant remember part number, but they are not the fancy coated ones. They fit tight to the floor without hitting, and clearance is good on my lowered 81.

spark plug / wire clearance with a raised exhaust port Cyl. Head is also problematic. Choose wisely, I opted for a set of Lemons Headers for this reason. Expensive than most but well worth the price IMHO.

I have a 73 Camaro with a 383 SBC with AFR 195 angle plug heads. TKX trans with mechanical clutch and no AC. I am lowered by more than 2 inches. I used Hooker 2117 since the original build was completed in 2006. I really like the 2117 headers and they fit great around everything, however, I did self clearance a tube or 2 with the pavement. BonzoHansen always had great reviews of the American Racing Headers and I was lucky enough to find a used set this winter. I have only test fit them at this point but they fit really well and tuck up nicely in the car. Attached is a pic with them mounted on a test block on engine stand on DS compared to the 2117 on the PS side. The next pic is them fit on the car.

These are what you want. You can get coated but then the $$$ jumps up. Most likely the same ones Biker is talking about.

I'm using that header on my 79 with a 383 also. Fit is very tight on the a/c box and #6 plug will make Mother Teresa cuss. Otherwise, all is good. I had mine coated at a local shop, don't remember exact price. If you coat, best to test fit first in case you need to make some "adjustments".

I will never buy coated headers again. I have payed $$$$ for 2 sets in my lifetime. I swear within 3 month they
start to peel,flake, rust.
