older Insperion N5050 laptop. several months ago i had a hard drive related start-up issue. I replace the hard drive with a NEW SSD and "copied" the entire drive using my external hook-up.!..YAY WOW talk about fast...computer would boot up in like 30 seconds....everything WAS good!

Fast forward 4 months...I get this Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep....upon trying to start computer?....WTF.....remove PRIMARY battery...reinsert...(it usually stays plugged in) ..NOPE...same 7 beeps. Research a little shows MAYBE the CR2032 watch battery as died. Swap that...NOPE ..7 beeps no start?

So ....is this actually DEATH of a primary system component? Some things are worth replacing..some NOT. Some cannot be replaced (given the age of this laptop)
Ideas?
suggestions?

didn't think of that...duh. guess I need a pinout chart to to check it. I try to unplug it once in a while to run it on the battery as I know they sometimes DIE do to living on a charger.

battery being functional to boot is kind of hit or miss
sometimes laptops need them, sometimes they don't

it really depends on if the charger is designed to run the computer while running. The dell latitude I use have a strong enough charger so I can take out the entire battery and be fine.

Anyways, millage may vary. In terms of the beeps meaning the cmos battery is dead, if replacing it didn't do anything you could have a corrupted bios. Are you able to boot into bios? or when you turn it on the screens stay black and you only hear beeps and no dell logo.

It might also just be end of life and cooked itself to death, laptops aren't...very efficient at what they do.

I think you need to read this :

Re: Inspiron N5050 7 beeps and 3 beeps

Sorry to hear about this situation. 3 beeps indicate a Motherboard issue. 7 beeps indicate a Processor failure.

Further on down the post he says could be a bad memory strip and to remove one and try to boot, then the other and try to boot...

but the post is worth reading on that site

the dell guy said :

Doesnt actually mean thats the case in an extremely old laptop...
over years dirt and dust accumulate inside them, might be worth a shot to pop out any memory and blow on where they clip into and carefully wipe the processor connections and blow there, could be as simple as dirt shorting 2 pads....

if that doesnt work and you have 2 strips of memory installed, try starting with just one and then switch and try the other
if it still doesnt work then id say its dead and yes, dont waste money getting it fixed, shop on ebay and get a new one
