This is a very strange perplexing situation........As Bob stated above the first L.A. Camaros were built in January, his being the 30th car down the line the 1st week of January 1970.
How this EBAY CAmaro has a Number ONE built vin tag and a 02D (4th week of Feb ) Trim Tag is way beyond my comprehension..........

I agree with Chuck. Something is very suspicious here. There is no good reason that Chevy would have parked the 0001 car for a month in the assembly plant taking up space.
I'd steer clear of this car. Something isn't right.

The only way to confirm this car is to see the VIN # behind the blower box, I also thought the first cars went to Smoky Yunick.

If we assume , for the sake of argument, a legit car - could it possiblly be a pilot car? I know that should give it an earlier build date but just a thought.

I just looked at the actual Ebay listing. The car is currently in Canada where it could have been sold originally...this makes it an export car. Did GM Canada issue new or unique VINs? Did '70s GM Canada do final assembly and assign trim tags and what not as did GM Europe for cars exported there? I'll dig around and see if I can answer my own questions.

As far as pilot cars go, GM's records say that 17 pilot cars were made............all at Norwood, and they had VINs 100001-100017. This is a Van Nuys car with a 500xxx vin, so that rules out a pilot car.
Every 70 Camaro in the entire world was built completely at either Van Nuys or Norwood, and no assembly plant in Canada had anything to do with building them.
If Canada decided to issue new VINs, GM would have never allowed them to reissue a number already used on another car. There would be legal issues with that.
GM's records say that L500001 was produced the first week of January. I'll be content believing that.

To Gary and all, I spoke to British Columbia, Canada seller this morning (Monday). I was certainly interested in buying this car IF in fact it could have been the number ONE car from Van Nuys, CAlif in Jan 1970.......but with that Trim Tag saying 02D ????????
Seems to me a read, saw a magazine article about Smokey Yunick having a 500001 1970 Camaro proto-type (pilot), but that was probably from Norwood?????
Anyway I set this EBAY sell, DAN FISHER straight about car having Vinyl Top (B = Black what was BLUE?????? on Trim Tag for Blue Vinyl Tops??) over #10 White Piant. Car also had/has Blue Custom Vinyl interior.
I asked for better pics(macro) of Trim Tags and VIN tag. I told him about looking under A/C suitcase on firewall for VIN stamping
I should have STUDIED this sites pictures of "L" Calif Trim Tags. CAn anybody say this cars trim tag has any problems, as I havent examined it item for item.
Think I will NOW call seller back and ask about him looking for Calif Build sheet????
regards to ALL of you,
