Not to be a jerk or anything but I'm not sure what you are driving at here. What seems to be at issue - and perhaps I am mistaken - is the VIN of 500001 and the build date of 02D not the fisher body sequencing number. I think that many enthusiasts are aware - largely through the efforts of folks like the CRG - that the body sequencing number has little correlation to the build date, VIN, build location or pretty much anything.

If I missed your point I apologize for being myopic and respectfully request that you "clue me in" as I would like to know (really).

The body numbers did not follow in sequence. In 1969, the body numbering system changed from waht used in 1967-68 to a central office assigned number and therefore was pre-determined before the car was in production, not assigned in sequence at the plant.

Sounds confusing with all the documentation to look up, but deffinitly looks like something of interesting historical value with that VIN number but who knows, just as long as someone snatches it up and restores it!!!

I have a 70 LA built L34 basket case, with the build sheet, vin#L501287, built 1C, body #01437, says on the B.S. "shed no. date 01-19", and the care has a 12/12 (69) built 12 bolt.
I'm no expert, but in my opinion that vin doesnt jive with that cowl tag. he may have somehow ended up with the lowest LA vin, but he has the 8103rd LA built car.

of course that doesnt stop me from wanting the car.

I agree the trim tag doesn't go with the vin #, look at the registry at how the vins correlate with the build dates, something doesn't add up.
Mine is #1 on the registry, build date 01A, body # 42, vin L500030.

Looks like someone is digging in the archives!! ;) Funny, no one knew who gas monkey was back then!

I believe there was someone more recently claiming to have Van Nuys car #1

There have been a couple of people to have claimed to have owned the car. A couple of them were members. I wonder if there is more then one car with 001.

The first guy that claimed to of had it posted pics of it here on the board. He said that he got the car out of FL, from Smokey's shop.
