So to start out, the only thing that remains of the original is the topskin , cowl and some inner structure. This has been a several year journey that started with a completely different platform. That failed for a number of reasons. I found this car and the rest is history. The goal is to build a car with a vintage look and all the modern amenities. Body - 70 base Camaro body shell - most all exterior panels are new. Chassis - Scratch built 2x3 rectangle tube with C7 front suspension cradle. Rear is a combination of C5/C7 and 04 GTO. Engine - Gen5 C7 LT1 with LT4 blower. Transmission – Gen5 Camaro TR6060 Rear Axle – 04 GTO center section – CTS-V half shafts. Brakes – C7 Z06 iron rotors, 6 piston front calipers, 4 piston rear.
Some more detail of the project. I have basically eliminated the rear bumper and filled the side markers. The front bumper will also be deleted. Kendig door handles are coming soon. I traded the cowl hood for an OE flat hood. I will be making some vents right aft of the radiator to exhaust hot air from the radiator, aftercooler and condensor. Back seat is gone. The battery and part of the sound system will be in compartments where the seat would have been. I am on the hunt for 6th Gen seats in Kalahari leather. The dash is also 6th Gen with the HVAC unit behind it.
