70 z smog option

    For all of the NA-9 components, it would be a good idea to buy a re-print of the 1970 Camaro Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM). There is a separate section just for the NA-9.

    I believe the thick gasket was to raise the carb high enough to prevent interference with the accel pump from the heat shield.

    This is correct. The pump arm will not have full movement if the thick gasket is on the bottom as GM assembles the BB shield which is incorrect. See last pics on my webpage https://my1970z28.com/COPO/na9_-_evaporative_emission_control.htm for heat shield used on Chevy Big blocks.
