I was going to bring this up. Same formula/color, different name. My 69 Z was Garnet, Pontiac called it Matador and Buick called it Signal.

Great photo of you with your new car at 17!

I think in your old photo from 1970 you're not able to see the slight shine on trim rings from 20ft away.

Original trim rings did have a slight level of shine to them but not very much. Not a mirror finish but more than brushed finish. In the one eBay link provided you can see it has enough shine to give a minor reflection.
Most likely before the trim rings were formed, one side of the raw flat stainless steel sheet went through an extra stage on industrial sander/buffer.

My originals from Feb 1970 Norwood car actually look like the later trim rings. They were never shiny; they had the appearance of brushed aluminum. I am trying to find early pics of them.

Mine never looked this shiny. They always looked like brushed stainless steel.

The re-chroming place said they had been chromed, in their opinion. Of course they were looking for $700 to re-chrome them!

I bought new ones from a GM Dealership in the early 80’s.

So would you say they were chrome plated? Brushed stainless? Satin stainless? Something different?
