^ Sure... If you can reach the release button and the stub of the shaft at the same time.
(Kind of hard to do with the entire dash/bezel assembled.)

And sometimes they are a PITA and it takes numerous attempts to get it to release.

seems easier than taking dash apart. I’d try laying on the floor and reaching up
AC? you wouldn’t have to remove the ducts

I hear ya twisty, Ive one taken one camaro dash apart, pcs fell of, cracked, he ended up having to get a new innner housing. I’d rather pay a midget to reach up there than take it apart.

100% ^^^. And like twisted said that little knob can give you a lot of attitude before it will release. And you’re working with brittle old plastic. 😱
Before you press the button pull the knob out to the full on position then press the button and the knob/shaft should pull out easily. If you press the button then pull it from the off position it will not release.

Having the shaft pulled out to the On position made all the difference. Once bezel is removed just slip a finger in front of the gas gauge and button is right there. Ash tray needs to be removed to access three more bolts then lower dash will drop down. Two additional screws hold the bezel from the back side. Thanks
