IMO these are casting numbers because I just looked up the 2 part no. and they are not in my 1967-75 GM Camaro Parts Catalogue Revised Sept 1975.
No mention about custom interior on the 69-76. Weird.

Thanks Mark,,,I appreciate your reply. I have two different numbers on my handles, but both appear identical,, that is what started our off-line discussion with a few other Nasty members. I have a few other very odd abnormalities with my car,, makes me think they just grabbed whatever was close when they were putting these cars together. Nothing was perfect in those days. Mine is a Feb 71 build.
For those shopping on eBay for the Deluxe window cranks part no 9715291, make sure you ask for a photo of the splines. Some are short for some reason and will not grab and stay on the regulator. You want the long splines. I bought 3 and 1 had short splines.
If your buying non deluxe window crank handles, stay away from the aftermarket because the splines are not thick and will eventually wear b/c of the soft metal they use and will strip and start slipping and spinning without moving the window. I have a pair of these BS Chinisum crap from 396.com in the 3rd photo of the link I posted before I found GM deluxe cranks on eBay.
Crank handles came from different suppliers and will have different casting numbers. GM didn’t want to put all their eggs in one basket and run out of stock but in some cases it couldn’t be helped and would shut down the line until the stock got flown in. I know a person who had the job at GM as a Buyer and was responsible for keeping the line stocked and making emergency calls to get stock flown in.

Thanks for the update Mark. Now we could always go down the rabbit hole of black or clear rollers on the end of the handles on early 71 cars. There are two fairly similar build date, original owner cars out West here, mine is a Z the other an SS and mine has black rollers and the other car has clear ones. Both profiles are identical in size, shape and offset and have different casting/part numbers. Confusion always.

IRT the original question, my 1962-72 (dated 6/73) Chevy parts book shows the same 8732962 part number for all 70-72 Camaro and 71-72 full-size Chevys as in Mark's book. However, I have an NOS window handle (clear knob) that I bought somewhere around 1985. The part number on the box is 20037597. and the casting number on the handle is 20322800. GM routinely superseded part numbers to reflect a change in vendor or some minor modification, so I looked up the 962 number in a December 1991 Parts History Catalog. It was not listed, which meant it was still a good number at that time. Edit #2: Incorrect. See post #8 below.
Edit #1: The part number 597 handle mentioned above is the correct one for Camaros (and many other Chevys) starting in at least 1976, and I may have actually bought it for the 1977 Camaro I was using as a daily driver back in the 1980s. It may or may not be a direct replacement for the 962 handle mentioned in Mark's post. It certainly looks identical. More research is necessary . . . .

To close out: the September 1979 GM "Part Number Replacements and Supersessions" book lists 8732962 as having been cancelled and superseded by 20037597. So the latter number should be a direct replacement, except perhaps for the casting number.

I bought repops from a main restore place and had to heat bend them so that they would clear the same repop upper door plastic,lol.
