Just wondering if anyone had a brand new 78-79 z28 or a stock one and ran it in the 1/8th mile. I know they probably weren't that impressive for today's standards but back then a 9 second 1/8th mile pass was probably pretty dang good. So if anyone ever had a slightly modified z28 or a stock z28 and actually ran it at a track and got an 1/8th mile ET and wants to share it please do!

My Berlinetta has a 3.42 posi rear and a crate 350 (250 HP) with shorty headers and 2.5” exhaust.

Real close to how a stock 79 Z28 was equipped. (Except for the exhaust.)

It’s a low 10 second car with A/C and full interior in the 1/8 mile.

My 1980 Z28 with the bone stock 350/350 3:42 gears ran a 16.2 in the quarter mile 3 years ago and that pretty much is exactly like what the magazine reported in late 79 and 80 definitely not a rocket ship...lol

When my car comes out of storage in a few weeks I will give you the 1/8 mile time I think I kept the slip in my glove box by the way vortec heads and intake headers and and a mild 260 duration cam 440 lift and a 600 edelbrock carb made this into a 14 flat car at 100 mph in the quarter for less than $1000.00

I have a copy of a Popular Science magazine comparison test of a '78 Z28, a Corvette , and a Mustang King Cobra. They didn't run 1/8 or 1/4 mile but they have the Z running 0-60 in 10.4 sec. So if you still have a stock one that means you wouldn't want to race any current Accords or Camry's! Amazing how far we've come since that time.

My wife’s Volvo xc90 is substantially faster 0-60 and 0-100 then a factory 79 z-28 dreamed of being, it seats 7 is AWD weighs a billion pounds and still manages 20 mpg.
