79 Camaro Emergency brake

Hey guys, currently restoring a 79 Camaro. My E-brake keeps sliding back. If I pull the E-brake handle nothing happens I have to manually move the pedal up toward me to disengage it but it'll slowly slide back and re-engage. My not sure if it's one of the cables that run underneath or if the issue issue is in the assembly that mounts inside the car next to the kick panel.

Look for where a spring used to be on the pedal assy.
Thanks, will do. I think I saw a picture of that on a forum here. Would the spring be located on the inner side up against the kick panel or can I access it without removing the pedal assembly?

With my assembly off I noticed the small spring on my e brake light switch is pushing my pedal towards the back. What stops that clip from pushing it? Is it the actual cable coming from underneath the car or is it the small spring I circled here?

The spring I'm referring to is on the pedal assy itself. Has to be something to return the pedal to "off" when the release handle is pulled. Similar to the return spring under the instrument panel for the clutch pedal, at least in concept.

There is no spring on the parking brake assembly. As mentioned by Twisted Metal it's on the cable itself. Underneath the driver side floor where it comes out. You probably need the main cable that runs from the pedal back.

Okay, I think the issue will be in the cable coming from underneath the car to the inside. That cable's supposed to keep enough tension on it for it to return and the spring is supposed to be stronger than the light switch spring. It looked a little rusty underneath. I sprayed some wd40 to see it that'll help. I'm going to paint the assembly in the mean time and see if that'll do the trick after I re install it. Thanks for the help.

truthfully that looks like it needs to be replaced. you can get that cable through oreillys/napa etc cheap. if youre worried about originality, who's going to peal your carpet back and look anyway. the real problem is where the conversion thru the floor is the big concern. the jam nut assembly was so frozen on mine i cut the cable. i ended up cutting the floor out anyway because the guy before me did a s**t job on the floor pans he cut around that an left it.
