Drive Junky Alternator set up is nice but have painted contact points. There was no ground connection back to the block. Had to remove the plating. Glad the Powermaster alternator instructions mentioned to check this. Alternator had the paint removed when it arrived. I only needed to do the brackets.

That looks cool.

Power steering fit up. Nope!

Reservior return port interferes with power steering gearbox. I guess it is off to see if I can find a different reservior with a different return port configuration.

Oh brother do I feel your pain.

Search my build thread for steering - the saga starts here: https://nastyz28.com/threads/camaro-rs-ls1-build-thread.312352/page-17#post-3687347

Read all the steering posts. I learned some hard lessons.

Somewhere in my thread is a link to this other thread where I got some helpful info: https://nastyz28.com/threads/ls3-accessory-drives.322580/page-6#post-3688184

The solution involves a Unisteer reservoir that comes with an AN return port that I had to remove and replace with a tight 90* swivel fitting - part number should be in there but I can dig it out if it isn't.

Yours is tighter than mine. But my solution might work. I made lemonade - a fluid cooler - the tubing goes around the cold air intake inlet (bananas deleted).

I looked through a lot of pump mounted reservior solutions but ended up exchanging the combo pump reservior for a pump set up for a remote reservoir. Drive Junky was great to work with and quick with the exchange.

im now getting the inners and fenders loose mounted to start mocking up all the things I need to run or mount near them. First on tap is the electric vacuum pump. Nice template sent with the MP brakes kit. Now I need to lay the fender on and see how the 3D version works.

Inner fender and fender soft mounted. Looks good for vacuum pump location. Needed to be careful to check interference with pump top and rear hood hinge bolt as it sticks inward into cavity.

I found these Click Bond Nutplates to use for the blind mounting. They use an adhesive like panel bond and have a self locking nut insert. Way too expensive but I thought I would give them a try.

Worked on the gas pedal mounting a little yesterday. Of the 4 mounts I purchased it was the Scarebird bracket with the Modo Innovations factory pedal bracket combo That worked best. This put the pedal as close to factory pedal position. The firewall flexed with the scarebird bracket when you pushed the pedal so I fab up an upper mounting bracket and that eliminated the flex.

summary of offerings:

AVS Bracket. - interfered with the cowl. Once you cut the bracket top off far enough you could mount it in the car one of the three DBW pedal mounting holes was gone. Pedal position would have been fair. Firewall flex would need to have been solved.

Modo innovations - by far the nicest offering. Well engineered and made. Same problem as the AVS bracket. Top of the pedal Assy interfered with the cowl. Had many features to ensure firewall flex would not have been an issue.

customworks - mfg quality wasn’t that good. Pedal mounted on an angle and way to close to brake pedal. Did have a high up mounting point that would have prevented firewall flex.

gm bracket - would have required all but one of the factory mounting points customized.

Scarebird bracket - as sold, the pedal position was too low it would hit carpet/ floor at full travel. Has firewall flex issue even though it is a very thick bracket.

in the end I spent a lot of money looking for a bolt in solution. while two of the 4 would at least bolt in, the pedal positions were not close or non functional. Everyone insists these fit 70-81. Two of them wouldn’t even bolt in. So either there are differences in the height of the cowl from the pedal position over the years or something changed between their design mock up and final manufacturing.

FYI when I measured the position of the factory 79 pedal compared to the GM DBW mounting position requirements of location to the brake pedal it was nearly a perfect match. Must be gm hasn’t changed gas pedal to brake pedal position standards………
