    Hi,
I’m looking to put a LM7 in my 79 Z/28 with a stock rear end. I was wondering if anyone knew how much power the stock rear end could handle, it will be around a 300hp engine or 400 if I get the cam package.

    thanks,
    Daniel

The rear end will handle that power level easily. You might want to check if you have posi because the car will hookup better with posi.

Ok, unfortunately I’m on a budget and it has a open dif., at the moment it is going to be a daily driver so I’m not looking for crazy performance, I just want a little more power and reliability. Thanks for the reply!

Then leave it for now, you're good.

Been running my 400hp sbc through the stock 79 rear which is also open for 2 summers now. If it doesn’t hook it won’t break. Just don’t be doing crazy launches at the track and expect it to stay alive lol.

Lol, I definitely won't be, it's going to be a daily driver but with a little pep to its step. So I definitely won't be hooking up that hard or ever launching like crazy.
    Thanks for the reply!

Remember the 8.5 10 bolt was designed to replace the 12 bolt Chevy. But it can easily be upgraded down the road as you can afford it.
