    Hi,

My 97 Z28 has a bad motor and I've seen LT1s from different years posted online. One of the motors I was looking at was a 94. Does the 94 LT1 work for a 97 Z28?

Yes but your '97 timing chain cover needs to be swapped to the 94 a maybe some sensors.

The 94 will have a vented opti and as posted above the timing cover will need to be changed to your 97 to accommodate the crank sensor as the early LT1's were a batch fire rig. I assume that you are going to use your late model non vented opti off of your 97. Just use the 97 harness on it. As above there may be some sensors to change out considering that it went from obd1 to obd2 for the 1996-1997 models.

Your 97 should have the 562 casting heads that flow a little bit more than the heaver casting heads on the earlier models. That being said the earlier heads are a little more durable and have more material in them for porting. Most 562's will flow in the low to mid 230's at .500 with just a good valve job on them.

    Thanks for the posts!

Are the heads from the 97 to the 94 a swap or is there any modification required?

Also, since it sounds like I have to switch out the timing cover, is a new chain in order (potentially) if the motor (94) has 85-90k miles on it?

a 94 LT1 is worth a TON parted out...aluminum heads, roller cam, roller lifters, timing cover, water pump drive, optispark drive, lifter spider, dogbones, throttle body, power steering pump & pulley, fuel rail, smog pump etc etc all sell for GOOD money

I buy "junk" LT1s every chance I get to part them out...guys will buy used pistons/rods...pretty much every part other than the block will sell
