Very Interesting....Castrol Edge 5/50 synthetic, do you know the PPM's for the zinc and phosphorous by chance ? Is your 468 BBC a Flat hyd or solid, EDM's or other lifter mods to help the lobes & lifter faces live? I like the 5/50 numbers.
FWIW over the past couple years, seems several of the popular diesel truck oils (which Did bear Both Cx compression ignition And Sx spark ignition API certs) have since dropped the Sx and have shown Increased Zn & P concentrations. Some have dropped the API certs altogether; in favor of manufacturer-specific standards. Funny how stuff happens.
Its a hydraulic flat.Nothing special.Im not sure on the PPM numbers.I only know about the oil because I had contacted Castrol to see if they had a full syn oil I didnt have to add the zinc package too, which I didnt mind, just looking for simpler. My 468 likes 10-40 the best, and he said this was same as that, with the zinc in it.You could email them on it I guess, and they would tell you.IDKW that info is impossible to find on certain things.
Bitog blackstone VOA indicates Zn=1383, P=1149 https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/castrol-edge-5w-50-sn-voa.190558/#post-2911725
Thanks for the info krabben1, much appreciated. always nice to have options...and it's a syn. to boot. Thanks for posting the link, I will be looking into this further for sure.
Looks like I'm good to over 8000 rpm. Have to run it down a mineshaft to get it there though. Interesting info on bearing clearances too.
I was helping a buddy at the race track one weekend several year back. I told him to plug in his oil heater on Sunday morning (warped around his dry sump tank). He decided to drive his car around the pit area thinking he got enough heat into it. He tore up the bearings 1st pass out. This large small block made just over 1000hp NA. This 63 corvette was running 7.70s the day before.
