I pay for Kaspersky antivirus for four or five computers.
Its been ok,until recently, our downstairs computer got corrupted with a malicious adware thing. It was a coupon deal thing, and my wife kept clicking on the close button(thus, allowing it entry all thru the computer).Went on for a month before she told me.Great.
Anyway,it ragdolled kaspersky.Rendered it useless and broken.
I finally managed to get online to malwarebytes.org.It cleaned the computer, and fixed it.Something kaspersky failed at.
Are they the same thing?
Like,Im I better off upgrading(paying)for Malewarebytes to watch my computer?
Or,would I need Kaspersky too,as it does something different?

No. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus per se, but a malware remover that only scans on demand. It works best in conjunction with an active antivirus program. Personally, I use AVG Free as my antivirus, but have Malwarebytes as backup.

Krabben,

I've been using the Kaspersky suite for about 6-7 years now along with the free Malware bytes. I just make a point of running the Maywarebytes updates every week or so and let it do its job while Kaspersky takes care of viruses. They do work well together and I only renew my subscription to Kaspersky annually.

If you want to really keep the crap off your computer, download hijack this. It will show you everything running on your computer and delete the software that shouldn't be there.

My laptop (collecting dust, I do everything from my phone) has avg anti virus, hijack this and super anti spyware. Between the three, I've never had a problem.

AVG free version has worked great me and the family along with malware bytes. Keep them updated. I have teenage kids that have acess to laptops, ipads, etc.
Hijack this I run about once year or if I start getting odd problems. If you have lots of favorite websites, back them up before runnning hijack this.
Works for me over a decade and I work in IT. I don't use what we use at work lol.

You should not have to pay for Antivirus software. I've tried a bunch and have settled with ESET Smart Security. I go by what this guys test results are https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkR6GP8EicUZmE7z0bMLjwg

Plus I use SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, IOBIT Advanced System Care 8, SpywareBlaster.
Other free online scanners I will use if I suspect something are: HousecallLauncher, F-SecureOnlineScanner and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (new 2nd Tue of ea Month).
