I want to give a shout out to my Friend Mace who will be on this coming Monday nights season finale episode. If you remember there were a few knife making posts a year or two ago on here and I've mentioned him before. He's been a friend of mine for 45 years. It's been a passion for him that he's turned in to a career. He teaches forging and other blacksmith courses at a local arts center. http://www.history.com/shows/forged-in-fire https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mace-Knives/485257134827510 Here's a sample of his work from a few years ago.
I got hooked on watching that one night, pretty cool work. They were melting down chainsaw blades and everything for different marbling in the blade.
He does great work, inspirational even. Forging Damascus like that takes skill and hard work. He is truly a master at the craft. Thanks for sharing.
Mark, you were making some nice knives there for a while too. My friend isn't allowed to divulge how he did on the show. I'll be watching it with him and a bunch of other guys tonight.
I started recently. Not into knives per se, but I do enjoy hand-craftsmanship and appreciate the time and skills required. "It will kill"
I have been watching, seems like there are a lot more complete failures of blades on the show than I expected.
That is a really sharp looking knife! A friend of mine back home is a blacksmith as well and he forges his own blades. He's done the traditional folded type as well as others. I had him make a dive knife for me and a butterfly knife. He is going to be making a Gerber commando style knife for me from some damascus steel he has. No pics available at the moment though I'm afraid.
