I am trying to ship a VW Westfalia Vanagon from MT 59901 to RI 02888.

    I've gotten the following quotes:

    American Auto Transporter: $2000
    State 2 State: $1500
    DAS: $2434

Does anyone have any other companies they used or know about?

    Thanks in advance

I shipped a shell from Chicago to NY, I asked the buyer how he was being charged, he said $550.

    Thanks.

I think prices have gone up. The first, American Auto Transporter was used by my friend to ship a Rabbit GTI from CA to MA and cost him $1000 about a year ago. The second, State 2 State was used by the Seller's brother to ship their father's classic Jag Coupe from MT to FLA and cost him $500.

The cost of the van is $1300 and is way below book value but I don't want to pay excessively for shipping if I don't have to.

Realistically, it's a 2500 mile transport a van. Most of the transport guys I deal with make $.65-$.85 per mile depending on number of vehicles their shipping, fuel prices and equipment quality.

I used this broker to ship my Jeep. You will be dealing directly w/ the owner, Bill Avrich, as your broker, not a random call center employee like you might w/ some of the big shipping brokers.

Whoever you use, make sure you do your research first. Keep in mind any of these "shipping companies" are brokers only. None of them employ drivers directly or own trucks (if they tell you they do, they are probably lying to get your business). So the lowest price quotes are going to net you sketchier carriers and longer wait times. All of the brokers are posting your job on the same load board, so customer service and a fair price are what's important to you.

If you use that, you may end up on an episode of "Shipping Wars"!

The high price might be because it is too tall to put another car over or under it.
