Looking at purchasing the B&M Megashifter part # 80694 for my 1981 with a turbo 350, I have a couple questions, from doing some research, the cable that comes in the kit is too long? does anyone know the correct length of cable to buy and part # ?

also on the factory shifter cable there is a boot where it goes through the floor, can you remove the boot and use it on the B&M shifter cable?

do you have to drill any new holes in the floor to mount the megashifter ? or does it bolt in the factory shifter holes?

is there anything else you will be required to buy to install this shifter?

I installed a 4' long one when I replaced mine. You can probably get away with a 3' long.
Part # for the one I use is 80832 (pic. attached)

As far as I remember this install is pretty straight forward and no other modification required. Just make sure the cable is safely secured away from exh. and any moving parts.

Lower left of the image appears to be some sort of adapter plate. Bolts into factory locations? Maybe ask them about it?

Thanks for the response, did you end up using the factory shifter cable on your B&M cable?

I used the cable that came with it on my 700r4. I just looped it a tied it up with zip ties. When there new they are a bit stiff to shift but they loosen up after a while. I never got that gear selector / pointer thing to work right but otherwise than that Ive never had a problem with it.

I have Megashifter in my 1978.
I even made a special conector on the transmission so that it wouldn't stop showing me the indicator on the dashboard. I set everything absolutely precisely and I'm still not satisfied with the shifter.

I wouldn't buy it again.
The handling is stiff, you have to learn to hit the reverse and the control is so unnatural.
Instead of backwards, you have to push the shifter diagonally into the floor. If I had the original OEM shifter available, I would put it back immediately.

I don't get the first question but IIRC I did not use the boot (don't even remember if mine came with one) from the OEM cable. I did use a rubber grommet though.

I did this almost 30 years ago on my Chevelle so the details are a little foggy, but like I said before this should be a pretty straight forward install.
