B&M Megashifter

I have Megashifter in my 1978.
I even made a special conector on the transmission so that it wouldn't stop showing me the indicator on the dashboard. I set everything absolutely precisely and I'm still not satisfied with the shifter.

I wouldn't buy it again.
The handling is stiff, you have to learn to hit the reverse and the control is so unnatural.
Instead of backwards, you have to push the shifter diagonally into the floor. If I had the original OEM shifter available, I would put it back immediately.

My brother just installed one in his 80, used the console version. Stock placement, used the cable that came with it and looped it over the trans, no real issues in the install.
I had one in my 73 but it was the generic version, no issues on that one either and it used the cable that came with it.
If they made one to fit a 70 console, I'd buy it.

I would even dedicate it to you.
Over the summer I will be converting Camaro to a TKX manual transmission.

But I promised my B&M Shifter to friend for his 79 Camaro project. He's building it from a complete wreck and the shifter is completely missing.

Looking at purchasing the B&M Megashifter part # 80694 for my 1981 with a turbo 350, I have a couple questions, from doing some research, the cable that comes in the kit is too long? does anyone know the correct length of cable to buy and part # ?

also on the factory shifter cable there is a boot where it goes through the floor, can you remove the boot and use it on the B&M shifter cable?

do you have to drill any new holes in the floor to mount the megashifter ? or does it bolt in the factory shifter holes?

is there anything else you will be required to buy to install this shifter?

I put the same shifter in my 70. I didn’t even use the cable that came with it. I used the stock cable that I already had in place. It’s been several years now, so I don’t really remember what all it took to do it, but it wasn’t that bad at all. I think the only thing I had to modify was where the cable gets held into the mount before it goes to the floor. I think I just spent my little bit or twisted it so it would hold the cable. It’s a nice shifter. You just have to remember what direction to shift it. The normal tendency is to pull back, but on this but you push forward to upshift.

I just put this in my 1980 the cable just makes a loop on top of the transmission. It works great.

I had a Quicksilver in my 78Z and just ordered another one for my 80Z, comes in tomorrow. I got it on Amazon for 329. while everyone else is getting 405. or more for them. I had to look deep into amazon for that price they started at 379. while it said sold and ships from amazon it's coming from a warehouse in Indy called Meyer Distributing, and I just looked at the tracking info from UPS and it went from Indy to Oklahoma City then to Tulsa for delivery tomorrow which is really stupid because you have to drive thru Tulsa to get to OKC from Indy???
