Call napa and get a good coil and Ignition Module and you should be good. That cheap stuff does not last and will leave you on the side of the road. I also keep me an extra Module in my mini tool box in my trunk.

Grasping at straws here but is there any chance you’ve got a worn timing chain? (That won’t help you with you oily coil issue though)
Everything is new top to bottom. Frame off restoration. Its a 1961 impala bubbletop with a 79 rebuilt 355 mild cam truck engine out of a 79 camaro.

ALSO . . . DO ensure that the necessary dielectric grease is between the module and its mounting plate area. Without it, the module will run hot and self-destruct after a while. It makes the mounting plate a better heat sink for the module's heat.

So DUI distributors are cheap crap? Man i did my research and seen nothing but good reviews on that brand. Hope i didnt get suckered into some more BS distributors. It was a little over $300, that aint cheap for me,lol.

Be advised, voltage across is one thing but CURRENT THROUGH (amperage) IS ALTOGETHER ANOTHER KETTLE OF FISH.

A good HEI is expected to draw at least 4.5 amps.

Suggest verify system can and does provide adequate current throughout operating range.

I would hate to spend more than $50 for an HEI. I have never had any issues with my Skip White distributors but it looks like they don't sell them anymore. I guess I will have to pay more at Speedway motors next time.

Could be something up with current availability. If this is the 5th distributor with a similar issue, there might be something other common issue.

Recieved my distributor today. Well the cap is clean and dry in this one, no grease or oily substance. I noticed there are burn marks on the module connector. That doesnt seem right. Is that done on purpose and if so why would they do that? Also both distributors had the 3 wire connector not seat properly when i got them. The first one had the black and red wire slip out of the connector. Had to bend back the tabs in order for the brass connector to lock in place. On this one had to do the same for the red wire. Maybe im nit picking but how do they leave QC like that if they claim that they are ran and tested before they send them out?
