I was just thinking about this the other day. I would like to start with a roller block with one piece seal and fuel pump provision. This video didn't mention the fuel pump part. I don't think the vortec blocks have a fuel pump boss but maybe the TBI blocks still did.

I have a 99 vortec block with no fuel pump provision, a TBI block with a factory blocked off mech pump boss, and the one I'm using in the Z right now which is a roller crate motor block with functional fuel pump boss.

They all seem to be good blocks that measure out perfect with no weird core shift issues. Only issue they all shared was a bit of casting flash over the oil drain back holes.

Some later blocks: some fuel pump mounts are complete, some need work. Some shops have a fixture-jig to complete it. There are DIY quickie Youtube on how to do it by making your own jig. Be advised the pushrod hole MUST be squared to the camshaft's fuel pump eccentric.

Some early third gens have an in-tank fuel pump with a regulator I'm thinking. Be the way to go with no block mount maybe.

I am building one of these now because of the reasons the video lists.
Be forwarned, if you are looking for parts and put vortec into your search, most of the parts will be for an LS and will not work on this block.
