I have a Chevrolet 350 block 3970010 4 bolt main and I'm looking to get somewhere between 400 and 450hp out of it , what's the best options on a budget?
Good short block prep with proper clearances (rod, main, rod side clearance piston gap etc). Vortec heads with a drop in spring kit or have the guides cut, .028" thick head gaskets and self aligning roller rockers. Retrofit hydro roller cam in the 220/230@.050 range 500ish lift, RPM airgap intake, 1-5/8" headers, 600-650cfm carb, good quality HEI with a decent curve 30-32 degrees total timing. Attached is a pic of the dyno results before tuning. 375 hp at the crank before carb tuning and ignition curve
I put vortecs on a 360 but went with flat tappet instead of retrofit rollers. RPM airgap also. Hoping to be around 400 hp but it wasn't cheap. Would go the LS route if I did it again.
I'd look at super chevy a bit they do a lot of buget sbc builds. heres one on exactly what your hopeing to do. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/project-cars/sucp-0910-chevy-350-engine-build/
I take what I said back. buy a 5.3ls get the carbed intake and ignition box, cam and valve springs. youll have 6bolt mains and 450hp probably for less then 1000bucks.
^^best response i've seen as of right now. Still not enough information though from Gregg. For starters what do you even know about the block? What if any parts do you have? What application are you shooting for?
At the very least can you say one way or another if you have any parts whatsoever or just the block and nothing else? If you do have some parts, i'd be interested in what type of heads you have. Its hard for someone to tell you what you need when you've not really provided much information, come on!!
