I’m partial to the ‘70-‘73 models - mine is a ‘71 SS 350 that I purchased new that year. Never planning to sell it. The best $4,750 that I ever spent.

So you actually did the metal work to eliminate the wrap around rear window?

My first Camaro was a 71 SS350 with a 4 speed -I really enjoyed that car and was the one that I eventually added factory spoilers, Cragars, Hooker Headers and a Holley 650 with mechanical secondaries.
When I was able to get a newer Camaro, I wanted a Z/28, so I bought my 79 350 4 speed. I was not as fond of the new bumpers at first, but over the last 40 years it has grown on me.
My 71 was a good runner, but wouldn't blow the 79 out of the water -and I do feel fortunate to have gotten the BW T-10 4 speed with a 3.73 posi, which makes it feel a little quick.
The biggest difference is the handling and ride quality -stock, the 79 would blow the 71 away. SS 350 2.jpg Z28 Frontangle2019.jpg

Great thread. I like em both. Guess thats why I got a 73 & a 79. Didn't vote tho because I couldn't pick both. I remember going to the dealership with my dad & seeing new 79s on the lot as a kid, so there's that memory of those. Lots of my friends & I had worn out versions of many of different 2nd gens when in high school in the late 80s. Love all the spoilers & stripes on the 79s. Love the round tailights of the 70-73s. Not as found of the 74-77s, but I've seen many over the years that I thought were sharp. I guess if I had to choose one, it would be 70-73. But all of the 2nd gens can really look sharp when they're done right!! :bowtie:

The custom stripe was added in June of 1971. It’s based on the Motion Performance stripe, but it doesn’t cover the back or go along the sides. The part that wraps over the rear fenders has the words “The Green Machine” which is the nickname given to my car by the guy who painted the stripe. The rear deck lid has the words “Shades of California”, since i was told that it looked like something from California. A small brass plaque covers the holes where the Camaro emblem used to be.

Here is a recent pic of the car (unrestored 36k miles) as well as the interior.

That is an amazing car. Near 50 years old, original owner, pretty much unmolested, and really nice.

That is one sweet looking car... On top of that... My 80 has the TAN (Camel) Interior, and I intended to add a black console and some other black highlights to offset the overwhelming TANNess of the TAN interior... and then I see the interior pic of your car... it looks SO perfect! VERY nice car!!!!
