Yeah. Changed the whole rear end sheet metal suite.
I know we late second generations are losing this battle, but I did a grocery run yesterday and dam this 41 year old ride still looks good to me LOL.
Yes it does.
I actually like both .But when I couldn`t find a 1970 1/2-3 .I found a loaded 1979 Z-28 of which I have modified
i consider there 4 parts of the 2nd gen.
early 70-73 then 74-76, then 77-78 and 80-81 ....BUT i am a Bird guy more so than Camaro. While very similar some of the styling changes come at different times.
I would enjoy a 70-73 Bird most....then a 77-78.
I believe the Camaro's went bigbumper in 74 WITH small rear window? then 78 went molded bumpers.... but also NO changes thru 81. The TA got an ugly lift in 79-81
70-73 was big grill and split bumpers, 74-77 was big bumpers 74 being the only year with a rear window like in 70-73
78-81 molded bumpers and have unique front fenders, but 78 had a different interior.
Well, realistically the 1974 was its own breed sharing 70-73 and 75-77 features. The real break out is 70-73, 74, 75-77, 78-81. I would not clump the 1978 into the 75-77 category.
I like all 2nd gens. 78 is my favorite for a few reasons, mostly because that's what I have and really like it, had it since it was new. I have no problem admitting that the earlier models were by far the better muscle cars due to the higher HP as they came from the factory. But HP can always be increased as desired.
If you went by sales numbers late 2nd gens drastically outsold the earlier models. That doesn't make them better, but you could make an argument that they were more popular I suppose. But it also makes the earlier years more rare and more valuable. I'm glad they are not all the same and glad that every year made is liked by someone! Variety is a good thing with cars in my opinion.
I'm 3 years into a full restoration and really looking forward to completion so I can get the dang thing back on the road and enjoy one of the best handling American made cars of it's era.
Any picks of a late 2nd gen with the only modification being - wrap around rear window converted to non-wrap around like the 70-73? I like the fast back style of the non-wrap around rear window.
