Hey all you Big Bumper guys out there. Since we've gotten the '74 on the road again, I've noticed two of my bumper rubber strip end cap pieces have disappeared (fallen off?) :whine: Does anyone know where to get new ones of these, or have an inovative solution to fixing this issue?

    Thanks!

Easy fix....I went to Orchard supply and bought a little piece of hard black sheet rubber....they sell it in different thicknesses and you just cut it to shape and glue or epoxy it on the end and you cannot tell it from the original plastic caps.... I can post pix if you want.

    Thanks, Naples

Yes, please post the pics. The parts through Tom look nice, but it's always nice to explore all options.

Is Orchard supply the name of a specific business, or just a place that supplies orchards with stuff?

Wasn't around today but I'll take some pix tomorrow.....Orchard Supply Hardware is a chain here in California....but I'm sure you can find the same stuff at Home Depot or any good hardware store.

Here's a pic of one of my original end caps...bottom is missing and the rest is cracking...

Here's the one I replaced with a piece of 1/4" hard black rubber...It's not perfect because there's no taper like the original but hey, it's a cheap fix and it works for me...I think it cost about $2 for a 6x6 inch square of rubber, enough for all four caps with plenty left over.

note: The outside skin of the rubber is an exact match of the black bumper...when you cut it though the edge is a dark charcoal gray not a perfect black .... It's actually darker than the picture shows so I left it alone....you can probably go over the edge with Back to Black or Armorall or something to make it darker (maybe even paint it black).
