If I go 396 I will use a new block.
Has anyone had any issues with the oil support ring setup?

If BP does in fact use a new block for your "396" build, it will be 4.00" based, and the cube will be 389.56 cubic inch, unless they bore a new block .030 to get close to that "396 number" and the question would be why do that to a new block if you don't have to.

If that's the case, the best bang for the buck is move to a new BP 4.125 based block, it will be a 414.3 cube with the 3.875 crank.

I use 1.125 CH pistons in many of my builds....now ALL have thin metric ring packs and NO pin intersecting into the oil ring land. Be it a "350" based combo of 3.48-50/6.125 or the "383" - "400" base with a 3.750/6.00 based combo. Dump truck ring packs are long gone for many reasons.

I don't like using support rails if I don't have to. Every builder has there own take based on there results/experience and "cost vs reward", it's just my take on this.

My memory isn't so good, but didn't the original 400 SBC engine have different cooling jacket affair?? Something like the coolant did not go around the entire cylinder area?? And weren't there " steam" holes where the heads bolted on???
Are these repro blocks the same??
