So, I'm interested, just what is the ratio of the Borgeson box? The original box on my 70SS is very fast. It is 2.3 turns lock to lock. Is the Borgeson any faster than that?
Just tried mine in the garage Gary. It is 2.5 turns lock to lock at the steering wheel.

Ya, I think the rag joint would be just as good as a u-joint as far as linear feel goes. At least in the short term before heat and wear gets to it. Rag joint is cheap, pop a new one in e ery 5 or six years. I like the u-joint too, but took extra time to clearance the frame so the vibtation isolating joint would fit.
Hello, Biker, et all,

Little late to the party, but seeking confirmation on need for rag joint when I too will install the Borgeson steering box. ‘79 Z28, original box is leaking and lotta slop / play in the steering wheel. I’m looking on Summit and have the correct Borgeson box, # 800130, would y’all know if the listed #990012 is the correct rag joint I would need? Think I just want to stick with the rag joint, not convert to iniversal at this time. Appreciate all info or opinions, thank you.

Sorry man, I cant confirm the rag joint part number, but I know a quick call to Borgeson will clear that up. They answer the phone and have real tech guys.

Good choice on the rag joint too. I like my U-joint, but I bet a new rag joint would be just as tight. And no clearancing work.

Check the shaft for play, and also the bushing at the bottom of the column under the hood. My bushing was trashed and any slop there translates into slop at the wheel as the shaft moves up and down.

Okay, sage advice, man, thank you. Yeah, like ya said, be happy to change the rag joint in 5 years again, if it comes to that, rather than clearing a universal.
Cool, I’ll check the bottom bushing tomorrow, figure it must be 43 years old now too, should replace it while I’m at it. Contact Borgeson Monday re the right part # for the joint. Thanks again,

Eric

Biker, all,

Just an fyi follow up to earlier conversation. Called Borgerson, and the #990012 coupler is the correct rag joint unit for use with the #800130 steering box, to replace my OEM set up. I ordered both from Summit just now. I also have a new column bushing on hand now from local shop, will be installing with the Borgerson stuff. Looking forward to the improved, new car steering. Thanks again…
