I've had mine (2117) on 3 different sets of SBC angle plug heads (Sportsman II, Canfield Alum. DART Iron Eagle) with no issues with any plugs or fitment.

Hooker 2117's fit well but you need to put the starter in from the top. There is no way to put it in from the bottom. If I could find them I would use some 1 5/8" headers that cleared angle plug heads. The smaller tubes make more torque.

Unless you have a 2 peice mini starter with removable, or shall I say "clockable" starter, makes it a little easier. I have seen more issues with oil pans in that getting off the oil filter is even worse !!!

And I agree with you on the 1-5/8 in most SBC cases. If I did it again, I would go stepped primaries.

I agree with Zed that the Hooker 2117 fits well. I have used them for many years with AFR 195 angle plug heads. There are a couple of plugs I need to use a box end wrench on but not a big problem and they clear the mechanical clutch linkage very nicely. Oil filter access could be better but isn't too bad. My car sits pretty low though and I have self clearanced them with the pavement more than once as they do hang a little low. I recently scored a used set of ARH headers on ebay. I am just fitting them up now, but I have to say they fit even nicer than the hooker in all aspects and I will gain a good amount of ground clearance. Attached is a pic of a comparison on my mock SBC block, the Hooker is on passenger side. The ARH require a mini-starter but I was already running one. If I didn't find the used ARH set on ebay I probably would have stayed with the Hookers because the ARH really expensive, but if your car is going to be low and you want the best fitting SBC header than I think the ARH is probably it.
