Look over your shoulder
Kinda strange....right at about 20 years ago is when Lee Shepherd wrecked in testing and was killed driving for Reher & Morrison.

Wow, I need to try to catch the highlights.
I read the story on, sounds pretty nasty.

<font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Update (Saturday, Oct. 8): The Reher-Morrison race team has announced that driver Bruce Allen is being released from Parkland Hospital in Dallas to convalesce at home. Allen sustained no broken bones in his horrific Friday night accident. He suffered a concussion and abrasions to his hands but was alert and communicating with his wife and teammates . Ken Koretsky has a bruised heart from the impact and remains hospitalized at Parkland. [Koretsky quotes]

Bruce Allen

Kenny Koretsky

Veteran NHRA Pro Stock racers Bruce Allen and Kenny Koretsky were involved in a two-car accident during Friday’s second qualifying session at the O’Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.

Racing in the right-hand lane, Allen drifted out of the groove towards the right-side retaining wall just before half track. When he attempted to drive back into the groove the car overcorrected, turned onto its right side, and slid directly into the path of Koretsky's Dodge. A fraction of a second later Koretsky drove through the undercarriage of Allen's car, knocking it into several pieces including the driver's compartment, which stayed intact. Koretsky ground to a halt along the left-side wall with Allen spinning to a stop 100 feet behind him.

Both men were conscious and alert when they were transported by Life Flight to Parkland Medical Center in Dallas. Koretsky had climbed from his car under his own power.

Allen, of Arlington, Texas, who was runner-up at this event last year, is a 16-time winner on the tour. He replaced former world champ Lee Shepherd in the famed Texas-based Reher-Morrison entry following Shepherd’s death in a testing accident in 1985. He finished a career-best second in the points standings in 1989 and is a member of the Speed-Pro 200-mph Club.

Koretsky, of Richboro, Pa., runner-up at last year’s Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in his first career final-round appearance en route to his first career Top 10 finish, is the only driver in NHRA history to qualify in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock at the same event, in Phoenix in 1989.

That was a most horrid crash really spooky. I hope all the guys that want to buy "cheap" saftey gear see it and realize that the prices on saftey gear are worth it. Godd cage construction solid helmet design and these guys are going to live. Think about it this winter while your looking for extra HP, maybe that money would be better spent on gussets for the cage, and the best damn helmet you can buy!!!

just drive it!!!!

yep i've seen really nasty crashes @ dirt tracks and all the drivers walk away with just bruising. i'm a tech inspector and i'm really ontop of all the rules/regulations. if i see a driver with a DOT helmet he doesn't race until i physically see a SA helmet.i even look over there firesuit and if i can see thru it or there is any cuts/abrasions it's no longer a usable piece of safety equipment
