Not solely because lift / coil bind--- I'd much prefer somewhat stiffer Z28 springs as well, especially so with the Intensity of any comp XE cams' fast aggressive ramps.

Lofting lifters can be an advantage in race motors --- not so much when endurance of street motor is required.

below, stock car references stock (race) cars --- but the Intensity precepts remain valid for all

This can backfire. Stiffer springs are a good idea to control the valvetrain as long as they're within the cam manufacturers recommendations. Too stiff is far worse than too loose. I could have a 55 gallon can full of wiped cams and lifters if I saved my souvenirs.

Wiped 3 cams and like 40 lifters on an aluminum headed 350 with .560 lift. I used 1.6 rockers to give it more lift on a hydraulic cam. That was a bad idea. The stock rocker ratio is perfectly fine if you size the cam appropriately. The additional leverage creates more force on the lifter. When combined with valve spring pressure, the results were disappointing. Ran Royal Purple 30 wt break in. Flames blowing out of the carb.

I don't think valve float (we can talk about the agressive angle modern lobes are ground on here) is as much of an issue as people on the internet say. I have never had a stock valve with stock springs smack a piston at even 6500 or 7500. Or even a regular performance cam do nothing other than what it was supposed to. Minus the valve train automatic deletion I said earlier. This is also why I quit believing in magic oils. I do use regular off the shelf conventional oil and a bottle of stp zddp additive for my oil.

There is something to be said for the simplicity of the engine. Put a balancer on it. Put a cam in it. Bolt on some heads, an intake, a carb, and go rev the piss out of it.

90% of the time this is what puts off a lot of guys from hotrodding. "Is it going to work?" Wrong question. Make it start. And then go have fun.

In principle, I don't disagree ....
FWIW, the difference in seat psi between a typical OE spring (~80 lbs on seat) and a typical "Z28" spring (~110 lbs on seat) is only about 30 psi. Other springs can be Much greater psi.
JMO, that 30 psi increase Alone ain't a lobe killer. YMMV

Ok I have not had much time to work on my cars, but I did get little budget 350 painted. Wanted show the results I got using POR 15 engine paint. I did spray it . It will run easy but i would use it again. I do wish they would put in spray can.
