That spot you circle on the trans is notorious for leaks. That where the shaft slides in. You just need to pull out the old silicone and repack it. It's almost a maintenance thing. I chased that leak for years when I was a young man way before the internet. LOL
Um +2

Hogging out the new AFR head? Dude has balls.

The remainder of his transgressions is ignorance. Then conceit by not admitting his ignorance.
Yeah, incompetence, ignorance, lack of pride in your work, those things are unfortunate but not intentional. The guy hogging out the hole is what gets me bent. It was a delebrate act knowing full well that's not right. I've seen many guys do that kind of crap in the service bays over the years and it makes all mechanics look bad IMO, and I take that a little personal.

I'm a bit curious here. What brand was that tap that broke off? I am seeing Chinese bits and taps that break like pot metal. And the construction screws that I've seen are also absolute garbage. Screws with the square drive bits are what I saw. Expensive and worthless.
I really have no idea, Tom. But it lasted until the very last hole of that size. The last hole period. But I guarantee it wasn't a Snap-On. I also don't know how many holes it had chased in its life before it snapped off. It was the engine guy's.

Dave, do you have to disassemble the trans to the point of pulling out that shaft to re-silicone it? I don't see any evidence of silicone at all there. From the diagram, it looks like there's a couple of O-rings that seal it. I'll take a close up of the actual spot on my trans and post it. The trans is in my shed at home. Nevertheless, I'm not going to regret getting a TKX ... unless it turns out to be a piece of crap.

Yes, reaming out that hole hurts. Not only hard to believe, but hard to take. The builder at Chuck's Speed Center mentioned a couple of ideas for repairing/working around it. I can't remember exactly what his ideas were. I think I was a bit numb from the shock looking at it.

Opps, I didn't mean to post that after I saw you bought the Tremec. On the T10 it's just silicone on the outside of the shaft. On the Muncie I don't know. I've rebuilt one T10 and that's the extent of my hands on manual trans experience. You're going to be very happy with the upgrade :)

You'll like that TKX for sure. I put a TKO in my 70 when they first came on the market. Really transforms the car if the engine is built with some low rpm torque for the highway driving. The old Muncie had that big jump from third to fourth that always hit near the end of the 1/4 run, the Tremec has a bit larger spread between first and second and close on up.

I think that cluster shaft is a press in fit in the front. Somewhat common to develop a leak there. Hard to get fixed. And that gear runs on needle bearings that gets tricky to work with too. Best fix is that new Tremec.

Totally redundant, but I said I'd post a pic of the actual trans where the drip came from
