Here, you drive the car to them with whatever plates it currently has no matter what State issued them. Then, they inspect it and run the VIN to see if it is reported stolen. California could learn to do it the easy way too.

Dmv didn't even try to help me with that info of having the option of a vin inspection service going to your home. They try to make a bad day for you. Dmv just hires anyone that shows breath on a mirror with no experience, his smart ass sharp answer to my question of, "TOW IT IN!" The norm!

For the early 2nd gens, there's at least one partial VIN stamped on the firewall behind the heater box/AC evaporator box. Sometimes there's two stamps like on my 73Z, one horizontal and one vertical. There's probably some pics on this site.

In Florida any certified popo can certify mileage. FOR FREE! AND, they come to your house if asked.

In california so can some trained folks at the highway patrol. Except they only do it by appointment at their offices on Saturdays. I checked one time and appts were 4 months out! SMDH

Mobile vin verification is how you solve this issue. $80 was what it cost to have them come out, spend 5 mins, and provide me an signed document for dmv. Easy peasy and had to do that on my 70 z28

Thanks again to Rosster for helping me out with this dmv issue! Had the confirmed vin paperwork in hand in about 10 minutes, great guy that loved my car! Back to dmv in a few days, this time with all paperwork in hand....will update.
