If he wants you to go to his home to pick up the motor, might be a good sign that it's a solid engine? If he's meeting in an alley somewhere it would probably be junk.

I have a 283 in my 59 Bel Air. t runs on cheap gas.

Love the 59 fins & cats eyes. Have long lusted for 59 el camino

No smallblocks were.Only bigblocks,at least on the chevelle line,only date coded.
Not sure if camaros were the same.

My memory and knowledge is Corvette based, which got VINs were block stamped beginning in 1960, I just assumed it was all of Chevtolet. It seems odd to me that Tonawanda engine plant would single out Corvette. Odd but not impossible.
