Fast forward to today, DA polishers (Porter Cable, Rupes, Flex, Griots, Meguiars, etc...) have become much more common and with the right cutting polish can easily remove most water stains. If it gets etched in, wet sanding may be required. Start with 3000.

Speaking of which i just ordered a new rupes lhr15 mark II and am putting my porter cable and backplate up for sale if anybody is interested. That's how you get serious defects removed is with the proper tools pads and compounds.

P.S. Use a high quality sealant instead of wax. Wax is for beauty not really protection. If you want the ultimate protection them a ceramic coating is the way to go. I am about to coat my Grand Cherokee SRT soon with gtechnic crystal serum lite and top it with exo v2. Should give me at least 3 years plus of protection with my truck stored outdoors.
