Clutch Conversion

I'm taking out the automatic and putting my stick shift back in my 81 Z28. I have all the parts and foot pedals etc. Being 17 years older than I was the last time I drove the stick shift I'm a little concerned about the heavy clutch pedal and my ankle and knee.

So I'm wondering if anyone has done a conversion to hydraulic or cable? The hydraulic conversion which I've looked up and seen is really expensive. My friend was telling me about a cable clutch conversion in his 66 Mustang but I'm not really seeing this for Chevy. Has anyone done a cable conversion for their clutch?

I have knee issues now myself and I'm running a clutch in my 55. I'm using a centerforce dual friction pressure plate and it has a really light feel to it. At a stop light I'll throw it in neutral but that's more to keep the disc and pressure plate from rubbing. Oh ya it's a stock mechanical linkage "Z" bar setup. A borg&beck pressure plate might kill ya but a diaphragm has a pretty light pedal feel.

I could be wrong but I think the McLeod pressure plates are all diaphragm. I think Ram, Zoom and maybe Hayes have borg and beck style pressure plates. The borg and becks have three fingers that the throw out bearing pushes on. Diaphragms have a whole bunch of fingers and seem to have a lighter feel to them.

I also have a bad left knee and installed a Centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate. Very lite pedal and great feel. Some members here have installed these clutches and even their wives liked them. A bit pricey but well worth it. Go to their website and check them out. You won't be sorry.

Was there a particular one you guys liked? I have a 67 327 that's pumping out about 425 hp.

I have a dual friction. It has weights on the throw out fingers, so the faster you spin it (RPM) the more pressure it puts on the disc for holding power.

I had the CenterForce dual friction with a manual clutch for my ST10 and then got a TKO500 and then I even upgraded to the DFX because my engine has 434 to the wheels ... and both are awesome.

My friend who has a Mustang with a McLeod twin disc and hydraulic on his T56 and he hates it ... he drove my car and loved it he said my pedal was easier then his.
