Trying to answer 2 questions - #1 my cross shaft small parts kit came with 2 felt seals. I've only ever seen 1 used, and it goes at the frame end. Where does the other go? #2 what is the correct return spring for a 70 Z28? I've seen many different kinds listed but who knows what this year really gets? (The long spring, the small spring with the long extender etc)

70 Z28 spring looks like this. Felt goes at each end of the cross shaft, otherwise the grease would not stay in the shaft.

Well doesn't the stud from the block have a rubber seal?

Yes it should have a seal on the engine side ball. There is only 1 felt seal used on the frame side. Also to be correct the grease fittings were never installed. There should be a red cone shaped cap stuck in the threaded hole .
